Rules of Radio Use
The success for the radio depends on several rules being adhered to:
Confidentiality is essential. Do not report others incidents, and comments. Do not speak to media about the emergency radio issues.
Everyone must feel free to be able to ask for assistance without being abused, or reported.
Let the radio monitoring people deal with emergency calls. Offer help if its needed, otherwise let the people monitoring deal with it.
Fill in the pre-trip information in the website so monitoring staff have all the required information when an emergency happens
The radios are monitored in private dwellings and commercial bases – no swearing, and keep chatter to a minimum
Avoid using before 8:00am and 6:00pm unless there is an emergency.
In case of emergency the first words should be Emergency, Emergency Emergency and the name and position. Then give the nature of the emergency and then any directions required.
For those self monitoring please keep a log of calls and issues.
